Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Girlguiding Guildford’s website. We are one of the largest Divisions in our GirlGuiding County, Surrey West, and offer a lively and wide program of activities and challenges for the girls and young women in our local community, whatever their background, abilities and resources. Guiding happens in units, typically 18 – 30 girls who meet usually on a weekly basis in school term time. Units are grouped into Districts – we have 3 of those covering Guildford – and then Divisions. Activities are offered at Unit, District and Division levels and beyond.

The youngest girls can join us at the age of 5, in one of our Rainbow units; at 7 they move up to Brownies, then Guides at 10 and Senior Section at 14. For the oldest girls, we have several Ranger units, and also opportunities for them to join units as Young Leaders. Many of our units offer residential opportunities, both camping and indoors. Some Guide units are able to offer the chance of international travel. If you have a girl who is interested in joining us, get in touch and we can advise you on times, locations and vacancies.

Guiding is a very popular activity for girls – I remember being told fairly recently that one in four 8 year old girls in the UK are brownies! In Guildford we have quite significant waiting lists, so we are always looking for adults willing to give some of their time volunteering with us – anything from an hour or two a year, to a regular commitment of two or three hours a week working with girls. Men can also get involved as helpers in various ways.

If you feel tempted, please do get in touch with us! All our leaders in the Division are volunteers and we do it because we find working with the girls rewarding and we make plenty of friends.

We believe that we offer all girls and women some exciting and rewarding opportunities in a safe, girl-only environment – come and join in.

Division Commissioner, Girlguiding Guildford Division
